Wesleigh Hype Promotion Presents The World Cup of Comedy!





It has long been said that laughter is the best cure for all aches, and laughter is the cure that will be coming to Toronto! On Sunday November 18th, 2012, the Danforth Music Hall (147 Danforth Avenue, Toronto) will be the location for non-stop laughter as the finest comedians from, Africa, The West Indies, Canada and the US collaborate in an event called the World Cup of Comedy!Hosted by Wesleigh Hype Promotion, The World Cup of Comedy is the first of its' kind in Toronto and will be an ongoing series featuring the best stand up comedians in the world. 

Catering to their established clientele, Wesleigh Taylor, better known as Wes Hype says "Africa vs. The West Indies is an idea we've had for the past 2 years. We thought there would be no better way to debut our 'World Cup of Comedy' concept. We want to showcase the differences and similarities between the African and Caribbean communities on a humorous platform. Our goal biggest goal is to unite and educate through entertainment."


Featured artist Michael Blackson is originally from Ghana and credits Eddie Murphy as being his inspiration.  Blackson developed his comedic styles in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which prepared him for stages such as the USA Comedy Central Tour, Laffapalooza, Shaquille O’Neil's All Star Comedy Tour, and more.  Blackson has appeared on Television (BET) and in movies which includes his leading role in the film Next Friday.  His trademark expression “mudasucka” has made his stand up routines instantly recognizable!

A professional actor, writer and teacher, Blakka Ellis is widely regarded by many as one of the top comedic entertainers in the Caribbean who has performed at the world famous Apollo Theatre in New York, The Hackney Empire in London, and at major comedy festivals in Toronto. 

Using comedy, Blakka has become a household name which has allowed him to tour New York, Los Angeles, Florida, Washington DC and all over the Caribbean.  Offering the most funny aspects of life in the Caribbean, Blakka is enjoyed by all who experience him!

Explosive and charismatic, Jay Martin is described as ‘hilarious!’  Born to Jamaican parentage, Martin has always been a comedian.  Described by Toronto Sun columnist Nicholas Davis as being “one of Canada’s fastest rising black comics,” Martin consistently makes audience’s laugh until their sides hurt!

Rounding out the comedic presentation are performances by Trixx, Eddy King and Marc Trinidad who have steadily built their fan base in Toronto and are quickly expanding to other markets! 

In addition to comedy, The Juice Cup offers additional competition through other fun outlets including trivia and dance. Competitors will include such supporting cast members:

MC Bonde, JD Era, MC Ebone, Spotty So Handsome, Femi Lawson, Julez, Peewee Da Prince, Brenda K, Missgo2girl, and Richard Frimpong and Shadow for Team Africa.

Team West Indies supporting cast includes:

T Rexxx, Jean Paul, Dr Jay, Fire Kid Steenie, Blaxz Dun Place, King the MC, Roache, British, Keesha Brownie, Marli Superstar and Jinx of Infinity.

Supporting cast members for team Africa include:
