Follow Your Bliss!

Taken from Mastin at The Daily Love.com

"The courses of true love never did run smooth."  - William Shakespeare

Last night a friend of mine invited me to a screening of the new movie "Finding Joe" on the Fox Studio lot here in Hollywood.

It was AWESOME. The "Joe" the title refers to is none other than THE Joseph Campbell.

If you don't know who Joseph Campbell is, I can guarantee you that you have been influenced by his work. The structure to any movie you've seen lately, the writer most likely borrowed from or was inspired by Campbell's work. Campbell analyzed all the stories of our myths of mankind and came up with and distilled the "The Hero's Journey" pattern and coined the phrase "Follow your bliss" as a summary of his life's work.

Those three words sum up all the wisdom that I can ever offer you. So - what the heck does this mean, "Follow your bliss"?

I'll start off by talking about what it doesn't mean.

It doesn't mean indulging in all the different types of sensual pleasures like overeating, drug abusive, sexual promiscuity, etc.

Follow your bliss is a sacred call to action for your soul to pursue what makes it happy and what makes it light up. Which means we need to start paying attention to what makes us happy, to the things we do in our lives that make it seem like three minutes has gone by when it's really been hours. We want to do the things that make us feel happy, fulfilled and BLISSFUL. This isn't about getting high, or burying ourselves in consumerism, this is something much deeper.

Campbell follows up his mantra of FOLLOW YOUR BLISS with the promise that when you follow your bliss doors will open for you where there were only blocks before. It means that each of us have a customized journey that we are being called to join and that if we give this journey a hearty YES, then we will be met with synchronicities and seeming "lucky" moments that guide our path towards eventual fulfillment and bliss.

Campbell also reminds us that we will have tests, trials and "dragons" to face on our quest. And that these dragons are really our inner fears working against us. This is why I talk so much about fear on TDL, because it really is the only thing holding us back from living the life of our dreams.

So, what makes you light up? What makes you joyful? Know that you can create a sustainable and thriving life from doing what brings you bliss. What fears are coming up for you when you consider this? What new habits, decision and actions can you take to make your bliss a reality?

Unplug from the trance of fear that is running most of our world and plug into your bliss, a brand new life is waiting for you.

Shakira To Receive Grammy Honor!

Three-time current Latin GRAMMY® nominee, seven-time Latin GRAMMY winner, two-time GRAMMY® winner, and international superstar and philanthropist Shakira will be the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, it was announced today by The Latin Recording Academy® (www.latingrammy.com).

Shakira, who is currently nominated for three Latin GRAMMY Awards, including Album Of The Year, will be honored for her renowned artistic and philanthropic contributions at a tribute dinner and star-studded concert on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Songs from Shakira's still growing catalog will be performed by notable artists and friends of the honoree. A major portion of the net proceeds from the gala will benefit Shakira's Pies Descalzos Foundation as well as The Latin Recording Academy's Latin GRAMMY in the Schools educational efforts. The celebration will precede the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, which will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on the Univision Network on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. "I am elated on behalf of The Latin Recording Academy and its Board of Trustees that the much admired Shakira — whose incredible talent and artistic integrity are equaled only by her commitment and dedication to philanthropy and selflessly helping those in need — has been elected the 2011 Latin Recording Academy's Peron of the Year," said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy. "We are honored to pay homage to this dynamic, socially conscious woman whose illustrious career has touched so many people around the world, both musically and personally."

"It is truly an honor to be in the company of some of the greatest artists and legends of Latin Music," said Shakira about this one-of-a-kind distinction.

Born in Colombia, Shakira showed early talent in school as a live performer, demonstrating her vocal ability already combining rock, Latin and Mediterranean influences with her own original twist on belly dancing. As a singer/songwriter, dancer, producer and musician, she emerged on the international music scene in the early '90s. In 1996, Shakira released Pies Descalzos, featuring the hit singles "Estoy Aqui" and "Se Quiere…Se Mata" both topping the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay chart. Her next album, Dónde Están Los Ladrones?proved an even bigger success. Following was the release of her first live album in 2000, Shakira: MTV Unplugged, which spawned her first GRAMMY Award® for Best Latin Pop Album. At the inaugural Latin GRAMMY Awards ceremony in 2000, Shakira received her first two Latin GRAMMY Awards. Without skipping a beat, she released her first crossover album, Laundry Service, in 2001, which became the most successful album of her career to date. Her next, Fijacíon Oral Vol. 1, in 2005, featured the hit single "La Tortura" with singer/songwriter and musician Alejandro Sanz. The album and single earned her four Latin GRAMMY Awards. Shortly thereafter, she released Oral Fixation Vol. 2, which included the worldwide hit "Hips Don't Lie" in collaboration with musician/producer Wyclef Jean. In 2009, she released She Wolf and quickly following on the heels of that project she released Sale e Sol in 2010. In addition to her busy recording schedule, Shakira has taken the world by storm with many successful global concert tours.

Shakira's numerous philanthropic efforts began at age 18when she founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a charity providing special schools for underprivileged children throughout Colombia. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, chosen for her involvement in global issues and her deep commitment to helping children. As an advocate for universal education, she served as Honorary Chairperson for the Global Campaign for Education, generating awareness for the U.S. Education for All Act in 2007. She has performed at many benefit concerts, and at the 2007 Clinton Global Initiative, Shakira received a commitment of $40 million from the Spanish government to help the victims of natural disasters. An additional $5 million was to be donated to four Latin American countries, to be spent on education and health. In its December 2008/January 2009 issue, People En Español announced Shakira as the "Humanitarian of the Year" as part of its Las Estrellas del Año (Stars of the Year) awards. On her 32nd birthday, Shakira opened a new $6 million school in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, which she sponsored along with her Pies Descalzos Foundation.

Shakira will have the distinction of becoming the youngest artist to receive the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year honoree. She joins a list of artists that includes Plácido Domingo, Carlos Santana Gloria Estefan, Gilberto Gil, Julio Iglesias, and Ricky Martin, among others.

About Shakira's Philanthropy
The mission of Shakira's foundations (Fundación Pies Descalzos in Columbia, Barefoot Foundation in the United States) is to ensure that every child can exercise his or her right to a quality education through advocacy and direct programming worldwide. More than 5,000 students receive nutritious meals, education and psychological support services, ultimately benefiting 30,000 vulnerable children, their families and community members who have all been affected by population displacement. Additionally, across Latin America, Shakira helped form ALAS (América Latina en Acción Solidaria), which is a coalition of artists and business leaders who are urging governments and philanthropists to increase their spending on early childhood development. Early childhood development programs ensure that young children have the basic healthcare, stimulation and nutrition needed to grow and enter school ready to learn. A Life of Learning!

Taken from The Daily OM.com

"Earth school provides us with an education of the heart and the soul."

Life is the province of learning, and the wisdom we acquire throughout our lives is the reward of existence. As we traverse the winding roads that lead from birth to death, experience is our patient teacher. We exist, bound to human bodies as we are, to evolve, enrolled by the universe in earth school, an informal and individualized academy of living, being, and changing. Life’s lessons can take many forms and present us with many challenges. There are scores of mundane lessons that help us learn to navigate with grace, poise, and tolerance in this world. And there are those once-in-a-lifetime lessons that touch us so deeply that they change the course of our lives. The latter can be heartrending, and we may wander through life as unwilling students for a time. But the quality of our lives is based almost entirely on what we derive from our experiences.

Earth school provides us with an education of the heart and the soul, as well as the intellect. The scope of our instruction is dependent on our ability and readiness to accept the lesson laid out before us in the circumstances we face. When we find ourselves blindsided by life, we are free to choose to close our minds or to view the inbuilt lesson in a narrow-minded way. The notion that existence is a never-ending lesson can be dismaying at times. The courses we undertake in earth school can be painful as well as pleasurable, and as taxing as they are eventually rewarding. However, in every situation, relationship, or encounter, a range of lessons can be unearthed. When we choose to consciously take advantage of each of the lessons we are confronted with, we gradually discover that our previous ideas about love, compassion, resilience, grief, fear, trust, and generosity could have been half-formed.

Ultimately, when we acknowledge that growth is an integral part of life and that attending earth school is the responsibility of every individual, the concept of "life as lesson" no longer chafes. We can openly and joyfully look for the blessing buried in the difficulties we face without feeling that we are trapped in a roller-coaster ride of forced learning. Though we cannot always know when we are experiencing a life lesson, the wisdom we accrue will bless us with the keenest hindsight.

2011 Digicel Rising Star - Tash!

Seventeen year old Chantal Lamont aka Tash, set the bar high in the beginning of the season, and for the most part maintained her standard, until it all finally paid off!

“I feel wonderful, I feel great! Actually doing so much hard work and it paid off? Awesome!” she said moments after being announced the winner. “I can’t wait to go to Edna so that I can study the saxophone, keyboard, just all the music that I can! And hopefully in about a month, I can release a single! I want to go hard!”

Jamaicans carried Tash all season like a favourite football team, but do they really know who Tash is?!

Hailing from St. Thomas, the intriguing and eccentric Tash, raised primarily by her grandmother, is a recent graduate of the Yallahs High School.  “I have graduated, yes, but them call me back, and said come back to school Monday morning, because I never got to do all of my subjects.” She said noting that she has to meet the minimum CXC subject requirements to take advantage of one of her prizes, a one year scholarship to the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

“I'm going back to do the science subjects, biology, chemistry, food, and hopefully I get to do music, cosmetology and clothing, because I want to do everything!” she continued excitedly.

Always singing and ready to entertain, Tash has sang with her school choir, performed at concerts, Karaoke’s and has been participating in the JCDC Festival competition since primary school with quite a few gold medals to her name. But not only is she in the business of entertaining, this active young lady is also an avid sports woman, “I play netball, do track and field, play football and dance!” she said proudly.

When she was first asked what her main goal in the competition was, she replied “To win!” and from her first performance to her very last, Tash proved that she meant it. Her first performance on stage brought out her true character, the Rising Star on the inside. She showed her competition that she was a force to be reckoned with, and that they should expect her back every week, more spectacular than the last.

Her most memorable performance, and eclectic, high energy performance of Beyonce and Lady Gaga's Telephone, blew the minds of voters and viewers alike and will definitely go down in Digicel Rising Star History as the performance that sealed the deal!

But somewhere closer to the middle of the season, Tash's performances, though still very entertaining, seemed to fall just below the very high bar she had set for herself, and the judges and viewers let her know.

“My journey has been hard, very hard, and sometimes you say, you know what, I feel like to give up, I don’t care what comes. You have negative thoughts about it sometimes, but you have good thoughts too.” she said about her minor stumble.

But Tash's faithful fans could not care less about her less than perfect performances, as they kept Tash in the competition out of sheer loyalty, hoping that with each new performance she would redeem herself.

“Mi haffi big up the voters dem who believe in me.” She said. “The vendors them downtown; let me tell you, to me the people them weh can barely afford it, a di one dem weh a vote. The rich people dem, dem doe wah spend di credit. The poor people dem, the sellers, dem people deh give you a push, they're one of my stepping stones.” she said earnestly, referring to the push she got to make her comeback in the final performance shows a success.

“And all the artiste dem weh a show me love, they gave me the push to say child you can do it, don’t even back down!” She said, referring to local artistes who made their love for Tash known during the season, mostly on the popular social networking site, Twitter. Dancehall veteran and well known local recording artiste, Wayne Marshall tweeted “If you ask me who the real star is, I gonna say TASH! I waah work with her bad!”

While Dancehall's femme fatal, Cherine Anderson tweeted “Tash is my choice... she has mad presence, and has kept Jamaica entertained for twelve weeks”

Now that she finally has the title she has worked so hard for, what’s next?

“I want to be bigger than everybody else, I want to achieve something never seen before, never heard before!” Tash said bright-eyed. Then added “By the end of next year mi supposed to have, hopefully three or more albums” noting that she is eager to work with artistes such as Taurus Riley, I-Octane, Wayne Marshall, Shaggy and hopefully, even Lady Gaga, “I love her!”

So who is Tash? “I’m confident and I'm an out-going person. And yes, I'm just 17. Just 17! Everything you see on stage, off stage, when I'm campaigning, that's Tash, that's Chantal!”

Apart from her title Digicel's 2011 Rising Star, and her scholarship to the Edna Manley College, Chantal ‘Tash’ Lamont also walks away with a cheque for $1Million, a BlackBerry smart phone, a record single and a music video.

Hindi Zahra

"[New Albums to Look Forward To - Fall 2011] Because this French Moroccan sometimes sings in Berber and sounds like Edith Piaf moved to Jamaica, got stoned, and started reading a lot of Rimbaud." — New York Magazine

Songstress Hindi Zahra makes her American debut with Handmade, an infectious album of exotic sounds that playfully savor East and West. Soul, reggae, jazz and a dash of gypsy, all intertwine with Hindi's heritage of bluesy Berber and swirling melodies on this impressive collection. Her voice, which slides between soul-inflected purrs and growls, and a clear resonance, is one of many talents Hindi taps as she stakes her claim alongside the likesof Norah Jones, Adele, and Sade.

Produced and arranged by Hindi in its entirety, Handmade features the first single, "Beautiful Tango," a smoky love ballad with a whistle-along melody, plus "Imik Si Mik" (Little by Little) and "Oursoul" - both sung in her native tongue. Closing with a series of six unplugged versions, Hindi re-imagines her original compositions with heightened intimacy - making for a thrilling 17 track debut album.

Hindi embarks on her debut US tour on Sept. 30 in Los Angeles, continuing to Portland, Seattle, Chicago, and culminating in  NYC at CMJ.

INTENSE CLASHES EXPECTED FOR GUINNESS SOUNDS ROUND 2

Over the past four weeks Jamaica and the world have been treated to what has been a top class display of the sound clash craft with Guinness Sounds of Greatness on TVJ. Now the show moves to Round 2 and the performances are expected to be that much more interesting.  The series, which began on Saturday September 3 has already seen eight Hot Shot sound systems battling it out in the hopes of winning over $1Million in cash and prizes and the bragging rights of being labelled Guinness Sound of Greatness 2011.

In Round 1, the first clash between Rich Squad and Crazy Chris saw Rich Squad reign supreme and prove that they had the strength of character and skills to move forward in the competition. That clash was followed by Bredda Hype versus Area Code 876 on September 10. Bredda Hype reached for greatness and walked away with a win.

The third clash in the series was between Kingston based sound system Coppershot and Westmoreland sound Black Blunt. Contrary to many expectations, it wasn’t a walk over as Black Blunt had to work hard to secure a win. September 24 saw what was expected to be the wickedest clash of round one, Maestro and Boom Boom, and Jamaica was not disappointed. The clash was so intense that there had to be a tie-breaker which Maestro won with a vintage Everton Blender.

This Saturday October 1 will see the start of Round 2 with the four Hot Shot sounds who reigned supreme in Round 1 squaring off against each other and four veteran sounds also competing to be the top sound to reach the final.

Round 2 will begin with Rich Squad squaring off with Bredda Hype. Rich Squad which comprises DJ Izzle, Paro, Reagan and of course head honcho Little Richie, started only two years ago.  Little Richie who leads the sound has had stints with radio station Hitz 92 FM and sound system Swatch International. On the other hand, Bredda Hype, the man at the helm of the sound system of the same name, says his affiliation with the art began from a very tender age as he would follow closely the trends in the business. The sound system which started in 2005 comprises Bredda Hype, Hammer Head and Fire Finger.

The second Clash in Round 2 airs on October 8 between veterans Bodyguard and Silverhawk. This is said to be the most anticipated clash of the series as these two sounds have never met in all sound clash history.  Bodyguard, which hails from Clarendon, was formed in 1987 and is no stranger to the sound clash world with many titles under its belt. The outfit was the first World Sound Clash winner in 1993 in London.  Their formidable opponents, Silverhawk, brainchild of producer Steely who died in 2009, were heavyweights in the clash ring from the late 1980s to the early 1990s.  Silverhawk has had several memorable clash wins, decimating the likes of Stone Love, Bass Odyssey and several others.

Saturday October 15 will see a return to one of the greatest rivalries in Jamaican sound clash history: Black Kat versus Ricky Trooper. Black Kat, based in Manchester and lead by Pink Panther, has been in the sound business for more than 17 years and has the envious reputation of winning five world clashes back to back.  Ricky Trooper, who now runs the Sound Trooper system, has a long history of clashing against Pink Panther, especially when he was the lead toaster on Kilimanjaro. According to Trooper, he has killed the most sounds, won the most trophies and played in the biggest dances.

The last clash of Round 2 will be between two of the hottest sounds in the competition: Black Blunt and Maestro. Maestro, a native of Western Kingston, credits the founding fathers of Reggae and other genres as the life blood that fuelled his passion for music. Formerly of Swatch International, Maestro knows the dancehall crowd and has a great feel for selecting the right songs at the best time.

Lead by their charismatic leader, Avatar, Black Blunt hails from the parish of Westmoreland.  Formed approximately three years ago, Black Blunt is seeking to prove that talent from rural Jamaica is just as good as, or even better, than urban talent.  Avatar’s infectious and animated personality allows the audience to feel what he is feeling. Avatar is joined by fellow front man selector Young Blood and describes the sound system as the voice of the ghetto people.

This Saturday October 1, Round Two of the Guinness Sounds of Greatness unfolds with exciting matchups as four veterans compete for a chance at maintaining their dominance and winning over $1Million in cash and prizes. On the other hand, there are four Hot Shot sounds that all want to be etched into dancehall history by beating a veteran for the title of Guinness Sound of Greatness.  Watch the show every Saturday night on Television Jamaica at 9:30pm as sound clash history is created.

Days of Affirmation

Taken from the Daily OM.com

"Send love to your day ahead and remember to stop and catch the miracles."

Upon waking, many people consider the coming day with trepidation. Because of the natural human tendency to focus on what we fear or dislike, it is easy to unwittingly send a message of unease into the future that negatively impacts the quality of your day. However, while our lives are busy and frequently replete with challenges, they are also rich with joy and experiences worth savoring. We can attract this natural bliss into our lives by starting each day with a message of love. When you send love ahead to your day, that love will manifest itself in your interpersonal interactions, your professional endeavors, and your domestic duties. Tasks and circumstances once made trying by your own anxiety are transformed by your love, and you will find yourself approaching life’s subtle nuances with great affection.

Each morning, when you have cast off the fog of sleep, take several deep, grounding breaths and reaffirm the love you have for yourself. Speaking a loving, self-directed blessing aloud enables you to access and awaken the reservoir of tenderness in your soul. Before you leave the comfortable warmth of your bed, be sure to tell the universe that you are eager and ready to receive the blessings it has set aside for you. Then as you prepare to meet the day, visualize yourself first saturated by and then surrounded with a warm and soft loving light. Gradually widen the circle of this light until you are able to send it ahead into your future. If you are commuting to work, send love to the roads upon which you will drive, your fellow commuters, and your parking space. If you have colleagues who arrive at your workplace before you, send them love. Likewise, a day spent being a parent or addressing household chores can benefit from the sentiment that precedes you. Sending love ahead to everyone you will meet and everything you will do can ensure that your day is suffused with grace.

If you have difficulty sending love to those situations and individuals you deem particularly frustrating, consider that the warmth and tenderness you project can change your life for the better. Each morning, in sending this love, you will exercise your power to control the ambiance of your existence and to color your day with positivity.

Putting People on a Pedestal

Taken from the Daily OM.com

"When you put somebody on a pedestal it is giving away your power and saying you are not good enough."

When we fall in love with someone or make a new friend, we sometimes see that person in a glowing light. Their good qualities dominate the foreground of our perception and their negative qualities. They just don't seem to have any. This temporary state of grace is commonly known as putting someone on a pedestal. Often times we put spiritual leaders and our gurus on pedestals. We have all done this to someone at one time or another, and as long as we remember that no one is actually "perfect," the pedestal phase of a relationship can be enjoyed for what it is—a phase. It's when we actually believe our own projection that troubles arise.

Everyone has problems, flaws, and blind spots, just as we do. When we entertain the illusion that someone is perfect, we don't allow them room to be human, so when they make an error in judgment or act in contradiction to our idea of perfection, we become disillusioned. We may get angry or distance ourselves in response. In the end, they are not to blame for the fact that we idealized them. Granted, they may have enjoyed seeing themselves as perfect through our eyes, but we are the ones who chose to believe an illusion. If you go through this process enough times, you learn that no one is perfect. We are all a combination of divine and human qualities and we all struggle. When we treat the people we love with this awareness, we actually allow for a much greater intimacy than when we held them aloft on an airy throne. The moment you see through your idealized projection is the moment you begin to see your loved one as he or she truly is.

We cannot truly connect with a person when we idealize them. In life, there are no pedestals—we are all walking on the same ground together. When we realize this, we can own our own divinity and our humanity. This is the key to balance and wholeness within ourselves and our relationships.

Damien Richards - Rock n Soul!

With his hands firmly gripped to his guitar, Damien Richards, a.k.a. D-Rich gives fans a unique blend of Alternative, Rock and  Soul as he presents lyrics that are reflective of life, love and the pursuit of happiness.  This accomplished musician has been dubbed Rock n Soul.

With his live band serving as his canvass, D- Rich illustrates the journey called life through his music.  Born in Trinidad and raised from the age of 13 in New York City, New York, D-Rich has been compared to Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Hendrix and Marvin Gaye due to the soul with which he performs.  Patrons who have attended his live events do so leaving having explored their raw emotions, sometimes dark, with the confidence that it’s ok to go that deep and that far.

“My music takes listeners to a whole new level” says Damien flanked by his band members at his recording studio in Queens, New York.  “We strive to make music that explores raw emotions and that is just good music.”  We’re giving them Rock n Soul!”

Building on his impressive catalog which can be heard in his sold out 45 minute set, Damien’s newest single, “Stay High” begins with an 8 bar intro which serves as an attention grabber as the next bars of music tell listeners to get free tonight as the perfect moment is at hand.  The artist sings:  "Baby won't U stay, stay with me a while, we can high girl, maybe we could fly"

Recently, D. Rich performed at Fighting Leukemia with Fashion at 404 NYC Lounge where a fan described the artist as one of the best independent talents she’s heard, and she also added “no one puts as much soul into rock and alternative the way Damien does!”

Damien will be releasing his EPK in the Spring of 2012. He is currently performing intimate dates in venues across the state of New York.  He has been featured www.essence.com, 95Flavas.com as well as DallasPenn.com.  In the meantime, fans can stay up to date with the artist by logging on to www.DamienRichards.com.  For additional inquiries email:  maevzandq@gmail.com.  Media inquires can be sent to L3Publicity@gmail.com

Different Ways of Navigating

Taken from The Daily OM.com

"We are all on this earth together learning and teaching together in many different ways."

We're all in the same boat. We just have different paddles, and perhaps we find ourselves on different rivers. We all live in human bodies. These are the vehicles in which we move through our world. We are all made of flesh, blood, and bone, with brains, hearts, and lungs to power us. Our paddles—the tools we use to move through the world—vary, as do the bodies of water—the environments—in which we find ourselves.

Some of us use our high IQs to get where we want to go. Some of use our smiles, others use kindness, a gift with language, or athletic ability. Some of these qualities we were born with and others are skills we have learned. Considering this metaphor in light of your own life can be very enlightening. What tools are you using to get from point A to point B in your life? Chances are, you and the people you know have used many different tools in various combinations throughout your lives to get where you needed to go. Just as with oars or paddles, a balanced approach is best. If you rely too much on one thing, like beauty, to open doors, you fail to be well-rounded and you may eventually lose your equilibrium. And if you lose that one quality, you have no paddle at all. This is inspiration to develop multiple tools to navigate your world.

Some of us may be moving along paths that are like rushing rivers; others may be on a large, still lake. We have all felt, at one time or another, tossed about on a stormy ocean. Through all this, we are never really alone, even though it might seem that way. There is inspiration all around us in the form of other people making their way through the world, in the very same boat. Remember to look around you for role models, companionship, and encouragement.

The Wisdom of Sharing

Taken from The Daily OM.com

"Imagine a world in which we all shared our gifts and bounty with each other rather than focusing on self preservation."

There are many variations on the story of stone soup, but they all involve a traveler coming into a town beset by famine. The inhabitants try to discourage the traveler from staying, fearing he wants them to give him food. They tell him in no uncertain terms that there's no food anywhere to be found. The traveler explains that he doesn't need any food and that, in fact, he was planning to make a soup to share with all of them. The villagers watch suspiciously as he builds a fire and fills a cauldron with water. With great ceremony, he pulls a stone from a bag, dropping the stone into the pot of water. He sniffs the brew extravagantly and exclaims how delicious stone soup is. As the villagers begin to show interest, he mentions how good the soup would be with just a little cabbage in it. A villager brings out a cabbage to share. This episode repeats itself until the soup has cabbage, carrots, onions, and beets indeed, a substantial soup that feeds everyone in the village.

This story addresses the human tendency to hoard in times of deprivation. When resources are scarce, we pull back and put all of our energy into self-preservation. We isolate ourselves and shut out others. As the story of stone soup reveals, in doing so, we often deprive ourselves and everyone else of a feast. This metaphor plays out beyond the realm of food. We hoard ideas, love, and energy, thinking we will be richer if we keep to them to ourselves, when in truth we make the world, and ourselves, poorer whenever we greedily stockpile our reserves. The traveler was able to see that the villagers were holding back, and he had the genius to draw them out and inspire them to give, thus creating a spread that none of them could have created alone.

Are you like one of the villagers, holding back? If you come forward and share your gifts, you will inspire others to do the same. The reward is a banquet that can nourish many.

A Citizen of the World

Taken from The Daily OM.com

"An aware traveler sees each new journey as an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of humanity."

As the technology of travel grows ever more refined, the world grows smaller. Whereas a journey of a hundred miles once took many days, we can now travel across the globe in mere hours. The four corners of the earth are accessible by plane, train, and ship, and there are few pleasures in life as soul-stirring and transformative as travel. In a new land, the simplest of joys can be profound—meditation takes on a new quality because the energy in which we are immersed is unfamiliar. Our sensory experiences are entirely novel. Yet the relative ease with which we can step out of our own culture in order to explore another means that we are ambassadors representing not only our own way of life but also the culture of the traveler. As a conscious citizen of the world, you can add value to the locales you visit while simultaneously broadening your own perspective.

A truly aware traveler sees each new journey as an opportunity to improve international relations, spread goodness, and gain a greater understanding of humanity. To immerse yourself in foreign cultures is to open your mind to fresh ways of being. Your natural curiosity can help you navigate the subtleties that define a culture. While you may not agree with all the traditions or laws of a country, abiding by them demonstrates that you understand and respect their value. Staying centered in another culture is often simply a matter of learning about your destination, being patient with yourself and others, and accepting that people may treat you as an example of your country’s attitudes. New worlds will open to you when you take part in the everyday life of a locale—the reality of a destination is in its markets, its streets, and its people.

Traveling presents a wonderful opportunity to practice being open-minded and grounded. The voyages you make help cultivate a worldwide community in which we as humans can acknowledge and appreciate our differences as much as we recognize and appreciate our similarities. Though you will eventually return home, the positive impression you leave behind will remain as a testament to the respect and amicability that marked your intercultural interactions.

Ask And It Shall Be Given!

Taken from Mastin at The Daily Love.com

"Don't listen to those who say, 'You're taking too big a chance.' Michelangelo would have painted the Sistine floor, and it would surely be rubbed out by today. Most important, don't listen when the little voice of fear inside you rears its ugly head and says. 'They're all smarter than you out there. They're more talented, they're taller, blonder, prettier, luckier, and they have connections. I firmly believe that if you follow a path that interests you, not to the exclusion of love, sensitivity, and cooperation with others, but with the strength of conviction that you can move others by your own efforts, and do not make success or failure the criteria by which you live, the chances are you'll be a person worthy of your own respects." - Neil Simon

We have to be able to communicate our needs if we want them to be met!  It's amazing to me how many folks I meet who are afraid, for many reasons, to not ask for what they want.

"Ask and it is given" is not just some silly phrase muttered by an ancient guy for his own good. It's a real spiritual law. Our minds get in the way.

First, we think we aren't worthy of what we are asking for. Then, we are  worried that if we really ask for what we want that those around us will abandon us and leave. We fear that we are not worthy, not loveable and we fear abandonment.

But I say that anyone who leaves you because you step into your power is a GOOD THING! We can only mold powerful lives if we are willing to keep a high standard around what we accept in our lives. To tolerate folks who only  "love" us when we fit the mold of how "they" want us to be isn't living an empowered life.

We must not lower ourselves to make others happy. No, instead we must step into our own large life and let go of whomever isn't cool with that.

You hear me!? LET THEM GO! If they aren't down for you to be empowered, there isn't enough room for them in your life, PERIOD. This isn't a selfish thing - this is a self-love thing. You want to rise? Surround yourself with people who have your best interest in mind! They will WANT to support you when you ask for what you want.

That's what you deserve. But you have to believe that you deserve it; ask for what you want and then be willing to let go of anyone who wants you to stay small. See yourself as large and step into your largeness. Celebrate those people in your life who celebrate your largeness. And celebrate their largeness, too!

The people who guilt trip you or threaten to leave you when you ask for what  you really want don't have your best interest in mind. They are threatened by your potential power and freedom. Free yourself from these chains! Let go of the heavy weight of those folks who can only see you as being small. Love  yourself enough to walk away and keep high standards so only those who are down for your largeness are in your life.

Throw off your fear, open up and boldly ask for what you want! And give  those you Love the room to do the same!
