West Coast Reggae-Caribbean Music Awards celebrate B.C.'s finest of the genre

We're a little late with this one, but all the same, we have to say congratulations to our friend Mr. George Barrett and his being honored at the West Coast Reggae-Caribbean Music Awards.  This article is provided courtesy of The Vancouver Sun;

The first edition of the West Coast Reggae-Carribean Music Awards took place Saturday night at the Diamond Banquet Hall in Burnaby.

The event was meant to celebrate artists from Vancouver and B.C. in a number of categories, including reggae, R&B/hip-hop, soca/calypso and African music. The event was also a celebration of the vibrant community surrounding the music in the Vancouver area, with special prizes awarded to local businesses, production companies and radio personalities.
I attended the red carpet, black-tie event and witnessed a high-energy display of music and dance and a great celebration of a community that is all too often overlooked.

Shout-outs to some of the big winners that night: Lil Precious (Best Album, Best R&B/Hip-Hop Album, Best R&B Hip-Hop Single, Best R&B/Hip-Hop Independent Artist, and Best Reggae Independent Artist - Female), Daddy Roy the Messenger (Best Reggae Single, Best Male Vocalist, Best Reggae Independent Artist - Male), Mel Warner and Melo Productions (Event Promoter of the Year, Concert/Show Production of the Year) and pioneering reggae radio DJ George Barrett (Best Radio/DJ, Outstanding Contribution to the Reggae Music Industry).
