Busy Signal Teams with Digicel Rising Stars Kimanda Cunningham for “Let’s Go!”

VP Records recording artist and award winning Busy Signal teams with Digicel Rising Stars previous contestant, Kimanda Cunningham for the release of the Dancehall song “Let’s Go!”

Recorded at Penthouse Records in Kingston, and produced by Cornelius Dailey a.k.a. Neil Road Crusher, “Let’s Go” highlights the fun that a man and woman have when they come together, and is the first release on the riddim called ‘Single.’

Kimanda was humbled by the opportunity to record with Busy Signal.  “Busy is one of the biggest entertainers we have for the younger generation, so to record with him is a dream come true,” she said via telephone from her personal recording studio.

As for Busy’s thoughts on recording with the upcoming artist he said “Kimanda has a lot of talent, and she’s one of the brightest singers.  It was a joy to work with her!”

Request this song on your favourite radio station and from your favourite radio jock!

About Kimanda:

From humble beginnings singing in the church, to having the attention and eyes of her homeland as she represented her country, the one with the powerful voice, known as Kimanda Cunningham, wins over her audience whenever she performs.

Born in St. Catherine, Portmore, Jamaica, Kimanda remembers singing from a very small age, first for an audience of her family, then for an audience of her church.

Competing on the show Digicel Rising Stars (the equivalent to American Idol), Kimanda received national attention as she competed against thousands of her fellow countrymen for the opportunity to perform, and earn the show’s coveted top prize.  Finishing 6th, Kimanda, as well as her fans were pleased with the results.

Some of Kimanda’s idols include Anita Baker whom she says inspires her lyrical content, Michael Jackson who inspires her performance content, and Whitney Houston who inspired her to share the power in her voice every time she takes the stage.

“Singing is like my heart and without the heart to pump blood through the body, there would be no life.  It’s a precious gift given to me by God, and I will always share it with the world.  Because of this gift, I have a relationship with the audience every time I perform.  They want my energy, and I want their attention.  We work well together!”

Using Reggae, Dancehall and R&B as her musical launch pad, Jamaica’s tough music industry co-signs on Kimanda’s talent as she has worked with greats such as Mafia McKoy (Yengeh, Dark Cloud, Full Size Riddims), award winning artist Busy Signal (Excellence in Music Awards, Youth View Awards and Reggae Music Achievement Awards), and veteran producer DJ Karim (Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Noreaga).

2011 marks the beginning of Kimanda’s career, and proof that she is the little lady with the Powerful voice.

HOTTT New Soca! Busy Signal - Touch De Road!

Before we get into Busy Signal’s newest chune “Touch De Road,” let us first give you the story that goes with the chune…

Busy Signal loves Soca … period.  He’s been bashed a little for going so hard with the Soca vibes but the truth of the matter is he loves Soca, and this genre is another avenue for him to express himself musically.

We had the opportunity see and hear Busy throw down in the studio and we're telling you, he could go all night, all day and all night again based on his energy alone which is a perfect match for Soca.  His respect for all genres of music entitle him to flow in any direction
he pleases:  Reggaetone, Spanish, Reggae, Dancehall, and Soca.  He can even go Opera if he chooses (just remember you heard those words from us first!).

Busy’s new chune “Touch De Road” is the kind of chune you play when you’re getting to ready to hit the road.  It’s the perfect way to start off the Soca vibes on Radio, in the club and on a mixtape.  You can’t go wrong!

P.S.  If you plan to repost the text in this blog, just make sure you credit the author properly.
Bless!

Tribute to Coppa Cat - Khago - Gone Too Soon...

A universal theme that touches all people regardless of nationality, creed or religion is death, especially when it comes at the hands of violence.

On Thursday (January 20th), Coppa Cat, who is a protégé of Richie Stephens, was killed outside Stephens home.  The senseless act was committed for Coppa’s Blackberry phone.

Khago, one of Jamaica’s fastest rising stars, recorded a tribute song for Coppa which is so moving, it has become the kind of song you can play for any person who has lost a loved one.

Using an acoustic guitar, and using the tremble in his voice to duplicate a crying soul, Khago touches the listeners heart via melody, and shares the pain of loss through his lyrics.

Whether it's Mommy who’s sitting by the radio seeking comfort, or the tuggy in the Dancehall who’s put up his lighta in honor of his fallen soldier, “Gone Too Soon” by Khago connects.

Must Attend Music Event!

We always get this question from independent artists:  where can we go to shine a spotlight on our career?  For those of you in the Atlanta area, there is one must attend music event which is called 'Time 2 Shine.'

Check the flyer below for details.  Call or e-mail if you have additional questions!

DJ Karim Presents: Kimanda Cunningham - My Baby!

Team L3 just spent a week in sunny and hot Jamaica, and have sooooo much to share with you!  From new talent, to new music to new information; there is just so much to tell you so I’ll do it by breaking it down into pieces.

Piece number 1 … Kimanda Cunningham!  This is an artist I want you to keep your eye on, and ear open to, as she is a serious talent on her way up.

You may know her as being a contestant on the show Digicel Rising Stars.  We met up with Kimanda at the studio where she was recording with Busy Signal.  Musically, we’d like to introduce you to Kimanda via DJ Karim’s Sudden Change Riddim.

The name of Kimanda’s chune is “My Baby.”  Pree the lyrics:

“Mih tell him seh mih love him / mih love him / nuh fraid
fih kiss up and hug him / nah mek no girl come take him /
nuh mek no bwoy come violate him / mih rate him / because
the feelings weh mih have fih you / amidst the ups and downs
we ago mek it through … cause baby / yuh mashing up mih
meddy / yuh steering me crazy / please don’t let it go…”

Imagine those words over a nice one drop riddim; a remake of  the Junior Byles classic “Fade Away”!  Kimanda mashes up the riddim bad.

Click on the song title below to download / preview.  Make sure you give us feedback so we can pass it on!
